Central Pillar of Frêney is one of the mythic routes on the south face of Mont Blanc. In 1961 it was a silent witness of a tragic attempt, which only three out of seven climbers survived. The “last great problem of the Alps” was conquered shortly after, by an English-Polish party under Chris Bonnington command and was described in one of the thrilling stories authored by Jan Długosz.
Even though more than sixty years passed from that dramatic events, the Freney Pillar is still a challenging objective that requires alpine skills and substantial physical fitness.
